Moto Gift Guide

Got a moto dude (or dudette) to buy for but don’t know a T-handle from a golf tee? Are you a moto mom that knows more about race sag than most racers but just ain’t having any luck with gift ideas this time around?

Below is a gift guide ranging from essentials you can pickup at everyday stores like Walmart or Tractor Supply to specialty items that any rider will love to unwrap. I’ll even take it a step further and categorize the list by MX racers, woods/XC racers, to trail riders, just to make it that much easier.

[Note: The following are items that I have used or have on my own wish list. I’m not an affiliate of any of these brands or websites, I don’t get paid for any of this, I just like to support those who keep the wheels turning.]

Trail Riders

Handlebar Pack - Trail riders can always use a place for their cell phone or a spare spark plug. I got the idea from Trailbound Co. so go buy his stuff and support guys like him:

Trailbound makes a lot of his goods individually but often sells out quick. I bought a similar pack on Amazon and it works great: Tactical Admin Pouch on Amazon.

Folding Saw - Trails grow over, trees fall, sometimes we gotta clear the path for others to follow. Folding saws can be strapped to a bike or put in a backpack. The Silky saws are the go-to for forestry professionals and trail cutters alike.

Silky Professional BIGBOY 2000 on Amazon

Walmart and Cabela’s sell smaller, cheap folding saws that would be great to keep in a pack if he doesn’t need the big unit. Pick one up in the camping aisle.

Hats, T-Shirts, Apparel - Everybody loves apparel. Pick something up from, or introduce him to, his new favorite online magazine, UPSHIFT Online. Support the people that support our sport.

Off-Road/XC Racers

Hydration Bladder - He probably already owns a backpack/hydration pack but I would be willing to bet he doesn’t clean it like it should be. Just buy him a replacement bladder and feel better knowing he’s not drinking bacteria flavored water.

Leatt Flat CleanTech Replacement Bladder (with hose) from Rocky Mountain ATV/MC. Bladders are typically universal, this is the one I just put in my pack by another brand and it works great.

If he doesn’t have a hydration pack, I don’t necessarily recommend picking up a generic brand from a Walmart but a Camelbak from Dick’s or Cabela’s will work awesome.

Goggles or Gloves - I’m hesitant to list things that are personal preference like jerseys and pants but goggles and gloves are basically consumables. Plus, off-road racers are typically not as uptight about looks and branding as MX dudes. And no one will ever have too many gloves or goggles.

Shop for Oakley or Scott goggles, here’s a link to the Closeout rack at RMATV. Just don’t buy a youth size, everything else is completely universal. Most goggles that come in a colored lens also include a clear lens.

For gloves, just find his brand and size from his gear bag and buy something similar.

T-Handle Wrenches - If he’s racing, especially in the woods, he’s going to be wrenching. T-handles are always a moto guy’s go-to.

Motion Pro mini set from Amazon. This set only has 8, 10, and 12 millimeter sizes, which is really all he’ll need and they’ll likely fit in his new hydration pack.

RMATV has a Tusk Compact set a bit cheaper, but at the expense of it being a specialty e-tailer.

Motocross

Goggles - MX guys usually want top of the line. Unlike gloves that are typically determined by the rider’s jersey/pant brand, the top goggle brands (the only ones that’ll Wow someone at Christmas time) are interchangeable and everybody loves them. Most racers won’t buy the best of the best because they know they’re just going to have mud and rocks hurled at them from another rider’s rear tire, but deep down he really pines over them. Get the good stuff.

Oakley Airbrake from RMATV. Everybody that lines up next to him will think they’re beat before the gate even drops.

Scott Prospect from RMATV. They don’t come with the street cred that the Oakley has but most core moto guys will argue the Prospect is the best goggle out there.

Racer X Magazine Subscription - Print magazines ain’t dead. Racer X has been the industry leader for years and they’ve been continually adjusting the print mag to make it relevant in times of online publications. They publish things in the magazine that he can’t get for free online. Get him something for his workbench or display next to his favorite living room chair.

Get it at RacerXOnline.com/Subscribe. It even includes a digital subscription.
