Ever had one of those times that you just get a weird vibe so you turn back and call it a day? Not necessary anything bad but something’s just off.
My Monday bike ride was going to be a pretty good 12 or so miler. I’ve felt pretty drained all day but was hoping to shake it off with a good, long ride. The route starts right off my front steps and follows the busy state road for about a half mile before turning up a backroad for a few miles then onto the trail.
After spending a solid 4 or 5 annoying minutes learning how to use the new Titan Strap I got to hold an emergency tube and pump, I was off. I got about a quarter mile into the ride when a Ding! Pop! Psssssss sound came from my back tire. Flat. I’d ran over a nail or something on the shoulder of the 2-lane road.
I tried pumping the tire up in hopes that the Stan’s would seal it and I could keep going but the puncture was too big. I’ve only punctured a tire once since getting into this thing whole MTB thing several years ago and hadn’t even been carrying any spares with me the last couple months of heavy riding.
Since I was so close to home, I decided it wasn’t worth fighting a tube install on the busy shoulder at rush hour and pushed it back. When I got within eyesight of my truck I noticed the damn passenger door was wide open. No foul play, I just didn’t swing it hard enough to close it. But still, what the hell.
Weird vibes, man. Sometimes ya just gotta listen to your gut.
